Over 80% of #Changehercancer story Campaign patients pay out of pocket, cancer care is largely excluded under health insurance and the cost of cancer care is unaffordable this puts a financial strain on the patient and her relatives. It is common for patients to become bankrupt while receiving treatment health insurance.
The #Changehercancer story campaign is a breast cancer advocacy and fundraising campaign. that seeks to improve the potential of patients becoming survivors.Our vision is to eliminate the access barriers of cancer care in Nigeria.On the 10th of October,2015 at least 7,598Nigerians convened at the the Teslim Balogun Stadium,Surulere,Lagos in solidarity for breast cancer care.With one voice and vision, we are determined to #Changehercancer story by bringing to fore the access barriers and galvanizing support to eliminate these barriers.The #Changehercancerstory seeks a day were cancer patients will receive the best of treatment regardless of financial status, tribe,health insurance type,age,sex,religion or gender.
With over 35 applications for treatment assistance received per annum, Sebeccly Cancer Care comes to the aid of indigent breast cancer patients through 2 patient assistant programmes. The Sebeccly Mastectomy Initiative (SMI) in partnership with General Hospital Lagos which provides free surgery (mastectomy) while the Sebeccly Chemo and Radiotherapy Access Initiative in partnership with Lagos University Teaching Hospital which provides chemotherapy and radiotherapy to hundreds of indigent breast cancer patients every year. Sebeccly works with both hospitals through the Medical Social workers and cost of services are further discounted in view of the existing relationship and volume of patients supported.
